Hybrid Kicks – 67 Free Kick Samples Made from the Body

Hybrid Kicks – 67 Free Kick Samples Made from the Body Max Christensen has released Hybrid Kicks, a sample pack containing 67 kick samples originally recorded from body thumping sounds. The sound source is the body, that’s pretty cool. Max grabbed a microphone, prepped for recording, then thumped away at his chest to record the samples. He then processed each sample to give it a modern sound and split them up into four categories: Low Thumb, Punchy, Sustained, FX. Here’s what Max said about the process: I recorded various body hits, adjusted the tails and then basically went crazy with the processing. First I added the subharmonics with the free subharmonic generator Bark of Dog because any drum will have a resonating frequency and a chest pound is just way too short. Then I would equalize, saturate, and compress like crazy in various orders. Sometimes I would apply double compression, double saturation, double …

Amplified Cello Quartet – Spitfire LABS Releases Cello Library

Amplified Cello Quartet – Spitfire LABS Releases Cello Library Spitfire Audio has released Amplified Cello Quartet to follow up their previous release of DRUMS. This time around we’re getting blessed with an entire software instrument dedicated to the Cello. Christian Henson and Harry Wilson were the engineers responsible for capturing the sound from the celli artists. After passing the sounds through amplifiers they routed the audio through some effects pedals to give them a more distinct feel. Here’s what the engineers said about it: LABS Amplified Cello Quartet was recorded by our founder Christian Henson and engineer Harry Wilson in 2017, here at Spitfire HQ. Christian played with the sound during the live recordings using effects pedals, with the celli in one room and the amps in another. The amps were driven incredibly hard, allowing you to turn your strings up to 11! The plugin’s interface is presented in the same …

DRUMS – Spitfire LABS is Back With a New Drum Library

DRUMS – Spitfire LABS is Back With a New Drum Library Spitfire Audio is back with their latest installment of their FREE to download professionally sampled audio library collection LABS (Let’s All Become Something). So, this time around we are provided their foray into drums – courtesy of drummer Oliver Waton and engineer Stanley Gabriel – and super happy for the option. If you are new to the Spitfire Audio LABS plugin then you may be relieved to find the user interface is minimalistic. There are only 3 controls – the 2 sliders and one large knob – Expression, Dynamics, and Reverb. Expression is described as an internal volume control in the tutorial below but they don’t expand upon the details …

If you aren’t interested in getting that type of processing you can link the modules in order to work in stereo by pressing a clearly labeled and easy to see button at the bottom of the plugin’s GUI. Regrader – FREE Lo-Fi Delay from Igorski

Regrader – FREE Lo-Fi Delay from Igorski Igorski has released Regrader, a Lo-Fi Delay plugin, for free in VST format. We’ve covered Igorski’s tech before with an article on the VSTSID plugin he released a bit back and we’re excited to see what he has done this time! Regrader comes with a user interface reminiscent of an old Windows system that it has 5 sections – Echoes, Gravel, Horror, Warble, and Filter. The Echo section is the main control section for aspects of the delay like time, feedback, and mix. Gravel, Horror, and Warble all contribute to the effect’s more unique elements that will warrant crazy sounding results. Here’s what Igorski had to say about it, Regrader provides a delay effect in which the repeats degrade in various ways to provide a malevolent twist on the ears. Echoes disintegrate, are decimated, piercingly oscillate and are finally mangled into a sound reminiscent of a …
