Bytebeat – Return of the One-Line Music Craze

Bytebeat – Return of the One-Line Music Craze We recently stumbled upon a music style that emerged a couple of years ago, Bytebeat, and noticed it was on the rise again. Ville-Matias Heikkila (aka Viznut) is the pioneer of the crazy style with some friends of his, they were experimenting with a programming language and discovered single-lines of code they had written could output wild audio patterns. More experimentation lead to the discovery of more musical code outputs and thus Bytebeat was born.   su_youtube_advanced url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtQdIYUtAHg&t=133s” showinfo=”no” rel=”no” modestbranding=”yes” https=”yes” /su_youtube_advanced Bytebeat is a quirky look into the world of computer music and the art of accidental discovery. Its origins were happened upon, “I came up with a 16-byte VIC-20 program whose musical output totally blew my mind” Viznut said about the code. Inspired by his discovery Viznut looked more into the subject and someone else realized the ability the add percussion and …

Mammut – Insane FREE Sound Design Plugin

Mammut – Insane FREE Sound Design Plugin Swedish research center – Notam – recently released a plugin called Mammut which is a free sound design tool that can turn your sounds into total insanity. The plugin works on a frequency wide level so that any transformations made affect the whole spectrum, this way very specific minor or major changes be made to yield crazy results. The developer stated the following, “Mammut is a rather unpredictable program, and the user must get used to letting go of control over the time axis. The sounding results are often surprising and exciting. Mammut is also ideal for common operations such as filtering, spectrum shift and convolution and it provides an optimal performance.” Basically what you have is a frequency shifter and an EQ that can be used to warp audio into something far more mangled than the initial sound. You also have the ability to edit …

Super Spread Vocals – Sonnox VoxDoubler Toolbox Vocals are often the foundation of emotion in a song and what better way to enhance that emotion than doubling your vocals? Lucky for us Sonnox has finally released their VoxDoubler Toolbox that features 2 plugins called ‘Thicken’ and ‘Widen’. The pair of plugins can be used in isolation or combination to enhance vocals (or other …

Arturia Product Demo Recap: The New Gear is Phenomenal

Arturia Product Demo Recap: The New Gear is Phenomenal February 24th Arturia hosted a workshop here at Beat Lab Academy and showed us a few of their new products from their lineup, with a heavy focus on the Minibrute 2 and Minibrute 2S. What we saw was AWESOME. They built both of these to deliver power, and when used together they become exponentially cooler. The Minibrute 2 is an update of the original Minibrute, one of the most renowned analog monosynths of the 21st century. The Minibrute was famous for its size, price, and punch that it packed for the whole package. The Minibrute 2 delivers on the hype of its predecessor’s legacy and does so in style. This time around Arturia opted for the same looking dark plastic as the original but added wooden side panels, the result is a well-built synth that feels solid without feeling too heavy. Also new to this …
