K-Mix – MIDI Controller & Programmable Audio Interface/Mixer

K-Mix – MIDI Controller & Programmable Audio Interface/Mixer   Kieth McMillen has recently released the K-Mix, pitched as a the unbreakable mixer, control pad, and audio interface. Loaded with 8 inputs and 10 outputs, with sample rates at 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, the K-Mix makes for a durable, all in one piece of hardware. At first glance, you will notice the similarities to Kieth McMillens breakthrough controller, the QuNeo. Working with similar, ultra sensitive mixing and rotary pads, the K-Mix hints at familiarity with a punch of power. Beyond the use as an ordinary controller, the K-Mix can be used in three ways, which you could swap between, an audio interface, a programmable mixer and a not-so-ordinary control pad. The audio interface feature is equipped with transparent uPre Amps that provide a clean, low noise pre amp. The K-Mixer mirrors your audio input with a colorfully lit display for an easy detection …

Santuri Safari – East African Live Pack

Santuri Safari – East African Live Pack   It’s an absolute delight to see and hear such ambitious projects as this one. A brand new instrument rack has been developed by Ableton’s own Emile Hookenhout, (a.k.a Behr,) that captures the excitement and authenticity of a revitalized East Africa. Attempting to stick as true as possible to the cultural roots of the instruments and sounds recorded, Hookenhout came up with the Santuri Safari Instrument Pack. East Africa is going through a refreshing look at their regions music, revitalizing it into something totally new. Musicians from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are working to move the regions sounds towards the global trend of electronics. Though with limited access to recording studios and equipment, the emergence of labels and collectives such as Santuri, who is taking it upon themselves to represent and put the region on a global stage, and third parties like Hookenhout, are allowing the …

Mogees – Play the World

Mogees – Play the World   Ever looked at your cabinet, or printer, or a tree and thought, “I want to play that?” Mogees allows you to do just that. Funded through Kickstarter, a group from East London, developed a small sensor pickup which allows you to ‘plug-n-play,’ any inanimate object, (or animate, if you’re into that sorta thing,) to use it as an instrument. The way Mogees work goes as follows: You stick the little sensor onto something, connect it to your phone, plug in some headphones and bang on whatever you’re trying to play. The sensor then picks up the vibration, sends it to your phone, and plays whatever sound you assigned. Due to its powerful sensory capabilities, it is able to tell the difference between different hits and gestures, which gives you the ability to assign each hit/gesture to different sounds. So in the end, Mogee can tell the …
