Fresh Tracks of the Month – May 2020
May has come and the sun is out, welcome back to another spectacular edition of Fresh Tracks of the Month! This week we have incredible talent to showcase, as per usual, and are excited to share. Many of us are still experiencing lockdowns in our cities so as long as we’re inside we may as well enjoy some tune. Listen below!
jackLNDN – Deeper EP
jackLNDN’s new Deeper EP features his signature style through a delightfully packaged series of songs. His take on ambient house music works so damn well in this climate that it’s almost too good.
The opening title track, Deeper, perfectly introduces the EP with his smooth vocals and addictive synth stabs. The rhythm is gentle enough to not overwhelm the beautiful instrumentation but strong enough to keep you moving along to the beat. The rest of the EP is just as good. Listen below.
Marsupial Lion – Tick Tock
Beat Lab Alumni Marsupial Lion made our list with his recent release – Tick Tock. The song is somewhere between psychedelic rock and lo-fi and is just lovely. The instrumentation is pleasant and serves the arrangement quite well.
The result is a laid-back, yet energetic, rock song reminiscent of 60’s rock bands and modern festival players. The mid-song bridge provides a fun contrast to the rest of the song where we hear a tripped out vocal breakdown. We’re so proud of our alumnus! Listen below.
Megan Hamilton – G.R.E.A.M.
G-House badass Megan Hamilton just released this awesome homage to the sweet, sweet green. G.R.E.A.M. is a banger from start to finish, with thumping basslines and tight rapping along the way.
We’re big fans of hip-hop and house music crossovers and this is an example at peak form. The production is tight and effortlessly funky. This has easily made our summer playlist. Listen below.
High Step Society – Perception EP
High Step Society just released an EP titled Perception, which we loved and wanted to feature their title track’s music video below. For anyone that loves electro swing, this EP will be a welcome source of fun and escape from the chaos of the world.
Perception sits more on the realm of bass music or dubstep than swing but it still introduces elements of swing. That adherence to the original form helps make this one of the more uniques releases of the year in our opinion. Listen below.
Lillian Frances – Raincheck Summer
Beat Lab Alum returns wit her latest track, Raincheck Summer. The song title is a clever play on the COVID-19 lockdown, and the song evokes spot-on feelings. It’s moody, sultry, and hypnotic.
If you’ve been stuck inside all summer then you’ll definitely feel the savagely lush instrumentation. This may be her catchiest track to date, keep it up, Lillian. Listen below.
