Beat Lab Artist Series Recap: Katherine Redlus This past weekend we had an another Artist Series workshop brought to you by Beat Lab Academy, featuring professional Harpist Katherine Redlus. Katherine went through the presentation by giving a bit of history leading up to today. She fell into Harp like many young musicians do with their respective instruments, an authority figure or guardian urges you into the practice. In Katherine’s case, it was her grandmother who wished to have a Harp player in the family so Katherine was granted that fate. Fast forward to high school, Katherine had persisted with the instrument and was quickly outpacing her peers. By the time Katherine headed off to undergrad university she had performed and mastered nearly every classical piece of music written for a Harp; that’s why she sought new frontiers to explore in college. Beat Lab Artist Series Recap: Brady Watt Last weekend we had another Beat Lab Artist Series presentation and we were graced with the presence of talented bassist Brady Watt. Brady has been the bandleader for Talib Kweli and has had his funky hand involved in countless recording sessions. He joined us to share some production tips but mostly to give a presentation on his live-performance solo set up using Ableton as a companion and controller. Brady began by sharing a bit of history – he grew up with hip-hop influences like Wu-Tang, Tribe Called Quest, and Gang Starr. His affinity for hip-hop clearly worked to his advantage as he’s been professionally recording for hip-hop greats like Talib Kweli, Ski Beats, Curren$y to name a few. Beat Lab Artist Series Recap: Naomi Wild This past weekend we held another Artist Series Workshop, and this time we had a Beat Lab alumni who has been absolutely killing it in the industry  – Naomi Wild. If you aren’t familiar with her work you should get on it because Naomi is a true hustler who has been grinding to get where she is at today: she is an amazing singer, skilled songwriter, and talented producer. Naomi told us about her come up over the past couple of years, she worked at a restaurant before fully committing to music and that was part of what gave her the motivation to dive-in head first to the scene. She started out as a songwriter and eventually decided that production was going to be important to her success so that’s how she ended up taking classes here at Beat Lab Academy.
