It used to be a significant investment, as you would need to purchase an instrument and invest in lessons to learn how to play it. This simply isn’t the case anymore. As we’ve already discussed in our article on getting into music production, you can start making music with just an iPhone. You can even sign up for online lessons to learn how to manipulate digital audio workstation software such as Ableton. Doing all of that should give you enough to cover the basics and start making tracks of your own. However, we know you continually want to improve upon your craft. So how do you go about doing this? Well, try to recall any great song and they’ll have one thing …

UJAM Virtual Drummer 2 – Update to the Slammin’ Plugin

UJAM Virtual Drummer 2 – Update to the Slammin’ Plugin AVID and UJAM have teamed up together to release UJAM Virtual Drummer 2! It’s available as a VST, an AU, or an AAX plugin. We wrote an article a year ago when they offered the first version for free, and we loved it. We were very excited to see what the update had brought and were not disappointed. So what is the plugin? Well, it is a playable instrument filled with 720 drum patterns ranging across 30 various styles of music. The samples were all recorded from 5 drum kits each with 6 different ‘character’ styles. The acoustic kit sounds pretty darn good and can be modulated to mix in some electronic drums. We had the pleasure of looking at one sample pack – PHAT – which has a beautiful interface and is a breeze to use. The top left …

Accusonus Beat-Making: Beatformer and Regroover Pro Today we are going to go over two awesome plugins from Accusonus, Beatformer and Regroover Pro. Both plugins are designed to interact with your drums – Beatformer as an all-in-one drum processor and Regroover Pro as a complex sampler. Continue below as we go over the workflows with each and what makes them unique. su_divider top=”no” divider_color=”#d2d2d2″ size=”1″ Beatformer Beatformer is Accusonus’ all-in-one solution for your drum buss. It boasts “a dozen different processors under the hood” and allows control over them with a simple user interface and the ability to dial in a combination of tones. This can be seen as a pro or a con here, the terms are likely ones you’ve heard before but don’t accurately describe what happens when using them (except for Boom). Otherwise, Accusonus knocked it out of the park here for users by making the controls so simple yet powerful. Each knob has …

Booms and Claps – Try Out Roland’s New 808/909 VSTs for FREE Roland announced to the world in January that they were to bring an updated hardware version of the classic 808 to market, the TR-8S. This was exciting news for everyone who has heard of the famed 808 but never had the opportunity to experience the real thing, but those who are more software prone we were still left with less-than-faithful recreations and knock-off emulations. Now, we all have the opportunity to use a certified official software version of the original 808 rhythm machine and its cousin the 909. Roland added these instruments to their Roland Cloud service, but you can now try them out for free without registering for their cloud. Though it is not a permanent license, users can try out the VST/AU plugins for 30-day trial periods without having to enter credit card info either. Roland said …
