Pioneer DJM-REC iOS app – How to Record DJ Sets Without a Laptop
Pioneer DJM-REC iOS app – How to Record DJ Sets Without a Laptop Pioneer DJ released a new iOS app at NAMM 2018 earlier this year, DJM-REC, and we’re excited to share this one technique along with a few others so that you can record your DJ Sets without a laptop. Obviously, if you are DJ’ing from your laptop your software will have an internal mix recording function so this article is more for those DJs opting for CDJs or standalone devices. 1. DJM-REC – $9.99 If you simply want to record your set, you could opt for an RCA to aux cable and record directly into your iPhone or Android device using any app that records (i.e. iPhone – voice memo, Android – Voice Recorder). The Pioneer DJM-REC app is our #1 recommendation if you have an iPhone or iPad because of its sophisticated recording method which also extracts time …

Rekordbox 5.1 Update Released – New Automix and Lyric Videos Pioneer DJ announced the most recent version of their DJ software, Rekordbox, which can be used to organize your DJ files and sets as well as to spin the tunes. The latest version includes an upgraded algorithm to better suggest songs based on beatmatching/phrase-mixing AND it can also play automatically those songs from a playlist. This feature will be especially useful for those wedding DJs or DJs who all constantly on the hustle and don’t have as much time to dig through their collections, or if they want to let the app do its work while they take a break and enjoy appetizers. The suggestion algorithm also improved the search function by in turn letting you specify which type of songs you’ll be suggested based on artist or comment, etc. Also new is the Lyric Plus Pack which displays lyrics on screen, similar …

Pioneer DJ announced last week their new Sampler & Sequencer the DJS-1000. This new tech is poised to compete with other samplers/sequencers on the market that are used in Live DJing gigs - but we think it is more likely to bring DJ's new to live production in, rather than convert DJ's already using other gear for that purpose. Compared to the current range of samplers/sequencers on the market, the DJS-1000 doesn't make much sense for lugging around, and there are more affordable options (Elektron, Roland, etc.) to use in studio production. The draw definitely comes in the ease of use, but we aren't completely sure if it will appeal to DJs who are happy with just decks and a mixer. That being said, and seeing how prevalent CDJs already are in club DJ'ing, it isn't too far of a leap to imagine venues shelling out the extra money for the new gear. The added benefit of using the DJS-1000, after all, is the ability to simply tote around a USB stick full of samples rather than your laptop. Watch the video below to hear a little bit more about the features.
