Should I Buy It? – Parawave Rapid Review

Should I Buy It? – Parawave Audio Rapid Review In this edition of Should I Buy It? Yeuda takes a dive into the multi-faceted synthesizer – Rapid. Parawave audio is the company responsible for this incredible softsynth, and they really went above and beyond here. Rapid is a plugin that combines the output of eight individual synthesizer layers, each of these layers can be modulated, effected, morphed, and mangled. The result is an enormous synthesizer that required our longest video yet, a whopping 30 minutes, and will certainly fill any synth void you have. Watch the video review below, and read our breakdown after that.   su_youtube_advanced url=”https://youtu.be/ssWrrQZ24eo” width=”400″ height=”200″ rel=”no” modestbranding=”yes”   su_box title=”Parawave Audio Rapid Rating: 9/10″ style=”glass” box_color=”#333333″ su_row su_column size=”1/2″ Pros: – Oscillator FX are versatile, creative and visualized – 10000 frames wavetable (very high resolution) – Bit Crusher Talk mode is awesome – The multi-band saturator …

Orchestra Hit! – History of the Infamous Sample

Orchestra Hit! – History of the Infamous Sample Today we wanted to share a video with you produced by Vox that features a history of the infamous sample, the Orchestra Hit. This sample can be found in songs spanning across decades since its origin in a composition written by Igor Stravinsky in 1909 – Firebird. It was originally sampled by the creator of the Fairlight CMI, one of the most influential and innovative pieces of music technology to be created in the last century. The Fairlight was the first synthesizer that could digitally sample, digitally synthesize, and have a visual (touch)display to sequence music on. Stevie Wonder was the first professional musician in the United States to gain access to and use it. Peter Gabriel was using it across the pond. The synthesizer deserves its own post so we won’t drag on too much about it, but it was integral to the widespread …

Field Recordings – Capture and Incorporate your Sonic Landscape

Field Recordings – Capture and Incorporate your Sonic Landscape   Shh. Take a moment to listen. You, my friend, sit in the nucleus of the infinite drum rack that is the soundtrack of your life. Surrounding you are limitless samples waiting to etch themselves into your tracks. Where to start. For one, if you have a smartphone you likely have a built-in recording app. You can also download an app which have more useful features for musicians. Try the Rode Rec app or Audio Memos for iOS for features like EQ, compression, and “extract markers”. While phones don’t have the best quality, they’re basically always in reach, and sound good enough. Make sure that you name the sound bit as soon as it’s recorded, otherwise you’ll get stuck finding “that one clip” from choices such as “New Recording 99” “New Recording 100” “New Recording 101”… you get the idea. If …

XOXX Composer – Arduino Magnet Based Sequencer

XOXX Composer – Arduino Magnet Based Sequencer   XOXX Composer is a new Arduino based sequencer that uses magnets to track the sequencer commands. This is a good example on how sequencer can become more and more connected with the real world. In some ways we use technology to brings us back in time for a more physical tactile use of musical instruments.   A few words from the developer Axel Bluhme:   The XOXX Composer is a different take on a drum machine. It turns the inner functions of sampling, looping, and sequencing, into a tangible, kinetic and sculptural form. Capture sounds from your surroundings or pick samples from records and then play them back on the XOXX Composer by placing the magnets on spinning discs. Simply let curiosity and creativity lead the way to quickly create unique beats away from the computer screen. The project is a result from …
