Learn to speak the language of music and understand the magic behind your favorite songs.
Create your own music using Ableton, the world’s leading production software, including sampling, programming beats, and recording.
Learn to perform your music with Ableton using the same modern techniques used by all of your favorite artists.
6-week course building the fundamental skills for students to start their journey of becoming music producers using the popular Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Ableton Live.
The students will also get access to the online course curriculum which will provide the students with class notes, videos, cheat sheets, assignments, and quizzes.
This course is aimed at beginner-intermediate music producers.
Foundation of Music Production
Lesson 1 – Music Theory: Rhythm
Learn the fundamentals of rhythm and how modern-day music styles using rhythmic patterns from all across history and cultures. Explore Tempo Vs. BPM, Time Signature, Note Division, Triplets, and Syncopation.
Lesson 2 – Music Theory: Arrangement
How to analyze a song in Ableton with Warping and Locators, what is Structure-Function, how to achieve ultimate Tension & Release in your project, Verse-PreChorus-Chorus vs. Breakdown-Buildup-Drop.
Lesson 3 – Music Theory I
What is the Western Music Theory and how it can help us make beautiful music? How to make beautiful music in any style.
Lesson 4 – Music Theory II
Learn Notes, Scales, Intervals, Chords, Chord Progressions, Voicing vs. Inversions. How to compose a melody, basslines, and hooks.
Lesson 5 – Ableton Live: Programming Drums
Intro to Ableton’s interface, learn what so special about the session view, and see how to use Drum Racks to make drum beats in any style.
Lesson 6 – Ableton Live: Recording & Editing
Explore Ableton’s Arrangement view, How to Record MIDI and Audio, Overdub How to Edit & Warp Audio. Using MIDI Controllers.
Lesson 7 – Audio & MIDI Processing
An in-depth look at every Audio & MIDI effect in Ableton. Parallel Vs. Serial Processing. How and why to use Return Tracks.
Lesson 8 – Automation
Explore the most important form of expression for modern computer musicians. Record & Edit Automation, Pre-Determine Shapes, Mapping MIDI Controls, and free-form drawing.
Lesson 9 – Sampling I
Introduction to sampling and samplers, History of Sampling, Ableton’s Simpler vs. Sampler, infinite loops, how to chop up samples.
Lesson 10 – Sampling II
Making your own instruments, advanced Drum Rack tricks, how to build super drum racks, Dilla sampling techniques, and much more.
Lesson 11 – Production Session
Collaborate with your classmates and explore all the techniques you learn in this course to create a track together in real-time.

This course is for complete beginners to music production and Ableton. Any prior experience with music (playing an instrument, singing etc.) or with computer music (pro tools, Cubase, FL Studio, Reason, etc.) would help.
