How much experience do I need before taking the Beat Lab Certification Program?

Foundation of Music Production is aimed at complete beginners. Students who are new to music production, or have some experience with DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations). If you have prior knowledge and would like to step up your production skills, you can jump straight to

Producer Skills – Focuses on Synthesis or Sound Design

Artist Development – Songwriting, Live Performance, and Collaboration

Art of the Super Producer – Mixing, Mastering, and Artist Branding

We will always have something to offer to improve your production skills, no matter your experience level.

Should I take a course or private lessons?

This all depends on your own personal goals. At Beat Lab Academy™, we provide two different environments, and both have their own advantages:

In the Lab (classroom), classes come equipped with desks that are designed to be interactive with other classmates while the instructor facilitates, teaches, and interacts with students.

You will get a musical environment with like-minded people, and potential future music partners

Our private lessons are held in our mixing and mastering studios in a 1-on-1 setting with your instructor. This is designed for students who would like more focused time with an instructor and their music. Private lessons are for those who require a flexible schedule and strive to achieve their artistic goals.

I'm not a beginner, do I still need to start at level I?

If you have a solid understanding in music production as introduced in our Level I course, then you can schedule a 1-on-1 meeting to see if you can fit directly in our Level II course – Producer Skills.

If you would like help deciding which course best suits your needs, call us and we would love to help.

The course I want is full. What should I do?

We suggest you register at least 2 months in advance. Due to limited space, our classrooms fill up quickly.

If the course you wanted is full, Call us and see the current sales we have on private session packs.

Will I have multiple Instructors at Beat Lab?

Our teachers are working professionals in the industry, and offer their own style to our programs. In each course, you will be exposed to multiple instructors, each with his/her own expertise.

Will I become an Ableton Certified Trainer after I complete your Beat Lab Certificate Program?

The certificate that you receive at the end of any of our programs is a certificate of completion. This is not to certify you as an Ableton Certified Trainer.

I'm a foreign student. Do you offer student visa?

We are not currently able to offer student visas. However, you can come to the US using a tourist visa.

What kind of benefits do I get as a Beat Lab Academy Student?

As Beat Lab Academy Student you get:
– Access to our studios.
– Student flash drive with all the plugins and samples you’ll need.
– Access to our online school.
– Discounts on pro audio hardware and software.
– Free exclusive workshops and seminars.

What do I need to bring to class?

You will need to bring your laptop and headphones.

It is recommended to have Ableton Suite 10, but if you don’t have it, we will provide you with the software and setup required for class.

What happens if I miss class?

As a Beat Lab student you will have access to the online curriculum which includes class notes, assignments and class video covering the main topics learned in the lesson.

Lab hours can be a great way to catch up for any missed classes, where an instructor or staff member will be available for assistance.

You are entitled to two free one-on-one privates with each Level course. One with a staff member, and one with a teacher.

If you already used your free private, another option is to book a one-hour makeup lesson ($100). You will be charged the full amount if you cancel, change, or miss your appointment for a private/makeup lesson with less than 24 hours notice.

I lost something in school, who can I talk too?

You can contact Administration, or check the lost-and-found bin.

What genres of music do you mainly teach?

We provide our students the production skills that can be applied to any style of music.

Our teachers are skilled in the art of styling, which allows them to target what makes a genre sound the way it sounds.

We encourage you to expand your musical horizon. If it’s EDM, Hip-hop, rock, jazz or any type of style you are into, we got you covered.

How can I schedule an appointment to come check out Beat Lab Academy's facilities?

Due to COVID-19, the school location is closed. However, we are still running classes online through an interactive platform.

For more info text us at 323-375-3664 or email [email protected]

Does Beat Lab Academy offer any studio time beyond the class hours?

Yes. We have both daytime and evening lab hours in order to fit your schedule. Check with the office for a schedule of upcoming Lab Hours.

For Foundation of Music Production students, Lab hours will be scheduled with an instructor.

For other music production programs, Lab hours can be scheduled individually without an instructor assistant.

Please read our policies page section regarding Studio Use and Code of Conduct.

Can you recommend equipment and help me set it up?

Our instructors are familiar with all pro audio equipment. They can help recommend the right gear for student needs, may also offer student discounts, and help set it up.

I'm thinking of moving to Los Angeles. Where should I live?

Beat Lab is located at Eagle Rock, an up and coming neighborhood right next to Hollywood. There is public transportation and parking to and at the school so you can live anywhere.

But, LA is LA and travel times can exceed expectation so we will recommend checking out one of these areas:

Eagle Rock, Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Glassell Park, Highland Park, Silverlake, Echo Park or Downtown LA.

Where is Beat Lab Academy located and do you have any other locations?

Beat Lab Academy™ 2501 Colorado Blvd, Suite C Los Angeles, CA 90041

We currently do not have other locations

Which dates is the school closed during the year?

Due to COVID-19, the school is closed. However, we are still running classes online through an interactive platform.

Beat Lab will be closed during these holidays:

Memorial Day, Labor Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving through that Sunday, and from Christmas Eve through New Years Day.

What if I need to change my course starting date?

Privates lessons can be rescheduled if notice is given 24 hours before the lesson.

Due to small class sizes and limited amount of space, we are currently unable to offer transfers, or holds on any courses or workshops.

Can I switch to a different course date after starting the course?

Due to small class sizes and limited amount of space, we are unable to guarantee transfers or holds. We offer flexibility in class placement and do our best to accommodate changing schedules when possible.
