Ableton User Group Meeting Recap – MaxforLive Visualizers Our most recent Ableton User Group Meeting was this past weekend and as always we rocked the house. Beat Lab founder and Ableton guru Yeuda Ben-Atar (aka Sidebrain) lead the workshop and gave us a tour of the different Max4Live devices out there good for making visuals. First off-the-bat he mentioned the MaxforLive Essentials pack that includes a number of audio and MIDI devices that you can use to manipulate the parameters controlling your visualizer. VSTSID – FREE Commodore 64 Synth

VSTSID – FREE Commodore 64 Synth Igorski recently announced the release of a free VST plugin that emulates the sounds of the original Commodore 64 system – VSTSID. The plugin is designed to resemble the web-based plugin WebSID which is a fun experiment by the same developers built for Google Chrome. VSTSID is exactly the same as WebSID except it is designed for use in your DAW as a VST or VST3 plugin; VSTSID features a Ring Modulator in place of the Delay effect seen on the Web version. VSTSID emulates the sound of the Commodore 64 which is known for its infamous 8-bit arpeggiator. Aside from the ring modulator the adjustments that are possible to make to the timbre of the sound are quite limited. Despite the filter effect not being true to the original, the sound of the pulse-width modulation found on the Commodore 64 computers is quite accurately emulated here in the plugin …

KVR Audio Announces 2018 Developer Challenge

KVR Audio Announces 2018 Developer Challenge KVR Audio just announced their 2018 Developer Challenge, their seventh audio plug-in/audio application/soundware design competition. To enter you must create a completely new plugin/application/soundpack/sound library that can benefit the music community and release it for free. KVR members will vote on the entries and decide on the winner based on their definition of the best submission. This is where creativity counts the most, the plugin could be extremely innovative in the user interface or maybe it has a simple interface but is a killer under the hood. Play to your strengths, embrace your weaknesses, and have fun! Five winners will be selected to receive a cash prize along with a sixth ‘wildcard’ winner. The amount of prize money will be determined and funded by the KVR community via the Developer Challenge 2018 Donation Pool. Other sponsored prizes will be announced by KVR soon.
