Fresh Tracks of the Month – July 2020 Part 2

Fresh Tracks of the Month – July 2020 Part 2 This is the second part of our July series of Fresh Tracks of the Month. Below we’ve got a few submissions from our alumni community, and others from the general public. It continues to be so amazing to be able to promote music from smaller artists on the rise. Listen below. su_divider top=”no” Nawy – Deep Therapy Nawy’s Deep Therapy brings the club vibes to everyone who is unable to go to the clubs right now (mostly everyone). Its clean production and evolving basslines draw you in quite well and remind of us the techno-laden good times pre-COVID. It feels like a modern classic and hits all the right notes for a great club track. If only festival season weren’t obliterated this year, it may have made it onto the main stages. Put your dancing shoes on. Listen below.   Nawy …

Fresh Tracks of the Month – July 2020 Part 1

Fresh Tracks of the Month – July 2020 Part 1 Last month we released a comprehensive but inherently incomplete list of influential Black musicians from the last century up until now. While we compile our next list we have decided to do a two-part Fresh Tracks series for this month. There are artists still trying to get their names out there and we want to showcase them. This is part 1 of the July series, listen below. su_divider top=”no” PC Muñoz – All the Time Feat. Matthew Szemela PC Muñoz submitted a refreshingly funky track to us for this month’s article. All the Time is a cool, laid-back jukebox slammer that oozes attitude. It’s reminiscent of Isaac Hayes’ Shaft theme and anything from Curtis Mayfields’ catalog, which is pleasantly topical given the politically charged year we’re having. Though the song lacks the lyrical content present in the artists’ music we …

Event Recap Round-Up March 2020

Event Recap Round-Up May 2020 We’ve had our fair share of masterclasses at Beat Lab in the past, but we wanted to really make a big splash this year. We’ve had a heck of a year with our live workshops, and we’re still hosting virtual masterclasses until the coronavirus curve is officially flattened. So we wanted to take a moment to summarize a few of our past events for those who missed them. We’ll go over past events, then tell you about a few upcoming! Read on below. su_divider Intro to Ableton Workshops   January of this year we started hosting free workshops to entice community members old and new. We’ve always welcomed prospective students in for class visits but felt that a monthly event would allow the whole community to flourish. Our first workshop covered the basics of Live. We’ve held multiple of these each month and have been …

Loren even teaches at Beat Lab when he’s not busy mixing records or producing his own music. AHZ is one of Loren’s many projects, the band performs all their music live and is turning the industry on its head. They were set to play Ultra before it was canceled due to Covid-19. Their most recent release is a cover of Creep by Radiohead. The song’s pristine production and banging rhythms are a large …

Fresh Tracks of the Month – March 2020

Fresh Tracks of the Month – March 2020 Welcome, all, to this month’s spectacular edition of Fresh Tracks where the tracks are fresh and the audience is even fresher (that’s you). We’ve got some incredible tracks below and we’re so excited for you to listen. After last month’s alumni spotlight, we wanted to carry the same range in style so we’ve got a wide breadth of genres. We’ve got hip hop tracks, nu-disco, indie/alt-rock, you name it! Enjoy the new new, listen below. su_divider Hopper – Bonnie Hopper’s song Bonnie is the first song we’re featuring on this month’s Fresh Tracks. It’s an Indie Rock song with a refreshing sincerity, and simplicity to it. The production meshes blissfully with the musical/vocal performances and the end result is a delightfully listenable tune. It feels like it could fit comfortably in the background of your favorite TV show, or at a live show. …

Fresh Tracks of the Month – Alumni Spotlight

Fresh Tracks of the Month – Alumni Spotlight Welcome back, everyone! It’s been a few months since we have done our last edition of Fresh Tracks, but we’re back just in time for winter to pack up its bags. This month we wanted to check in with our alumni and listen to their most recent tracks! We couldn’t pick them all, but below are some of our favorite releases. Listen below. su_divider top=”no” divider_color=”#d2d2d2″ size=”1″ Partywithray – partywithray EP Beat Lab’s most recent break-out artist is easily Partywithray. Already he has opened for dance music legends like Zhu, Loud Luxury, and Green Velvet.  Lucky for us, he just released his debut EP of the same name, partywithray. The EP features two songs dedicated to letting the audience know the answer to the question – who the fuck is partywithray? Shrouded in style and a fog of nonchalant mystery, the EP’s …
